In 2010, Truth Chapel was given over 6 acres of land, and money was given to purchase 5 more acres. At the time, Truth Chapel was able to clear a small portion of the land and to build a playground and outdoor platform. At the playground, Sonlife Broadcasting Network airs over outdoor speakers, allowing those who visit to hear the Gospel. The platform is used for outdoor services and other outreaches when the weather permits.
In 2013, money was raised by the church to run a water line to the property. Shortly thereafter, through a series of miraculous donations, money was raised to build a small, one-room school on the property.
Since then, the church has been praying about, seeking funds, and raising money to build a church facility on the land. While waiting, the congregation has been growing, a closet in the current facility was converted into a radio station, and a room was built in the lobby to be used as a nursery.
In 2016, Scott and Nikkie began discussing whether it would be better to find another place to rent or buy in a busier part of town. At the end of 2016, they felt that they should focus their search for a new location in downtown Spartanburg. This included many walks and rides around downtown, and many phone calls, seeking for a building that would be large enough, affordable, and meet other needs of the church.
In the Spring of 2017, Scott called about a building on N Church Street. They were able to visit it, but were told that someone else had already made an offer on the building, and would be given the opportunity to buy it first. So, they continued looking elsewhere, but also kept calling to see what decision had been made about the building on Church Street.
In August 2017, they were told that the other interested party would not be getting the building, and they could look again, and make an offer. So, they began getting professional prices for needed repairs, and came to an agreement with the owner to begin renovating, lease temporarily, and eventually buy the building (once a loan has been obtained).
Renovations took longer and more money than expected, but they were able to move into their new location in June 2018. They still have some work to do, and are continuing to raise money to pay off renovation debts. But they are excited about their new church location.
Truth Chapel will still use their ministry grounds for the school, events, and whatever other doors God opens. But the building downtown allows them to be in the midst of a lot of activity, able to reach a greater audience than ever before. The building is open throughout the week for bookstore purchases, a place of prayer, etc.
